So, what are the three traits that we are “Grounded By”? We need to avoid these negative anchors:
1. A Lack of Courage
2. A Lack of Initiative
3. A Lack of Perseverance
I’ll explain each of these in greater detail in future posts. But consider this: we do not inherently have these three negative anchor traits. They are acquired or cultivated over time. Like a gardener who, indifferent to his growing vegetables, leaves the garden to elements that invite weeds and creatures that eat up the produce, the behaviors or thoughts that accompany the negative anchor traits limit the effectiveness of our three positive anchors.
Regardless of whether you are an owner/entrepreneur or working to advance into a management or ownership position, you will be called upon to exhibit strategic leadership and make good decisions, especially in an emergency or disaster. But you were not born a leader, and you don’t instinctively know how to make good decisions. You become a leader by gaining experience through effort and trial, learning from your mistakes and finding good friends and mentors who alert you to your negative anchors. When you pay attention to your negative “Grounded By” traits and take corrective action to eliminate or minimize them, you will eventually be in a position to exhibit strategic leadership and make good decisions in a crisis.
