Browsing through an open market in Charleston, South Carolina, today, I came across this item for sale:
It is called a “Decision-Maker.” There is a pendulum under the influence of a magnet that swings across a series of words: “Never,” “Always,” “Yes,” “No,” and “Maybe.” It is a novelty item, a gimmick obviously not meant to actually make any decision.
But it got me thinking—how many people rely on useless information to make key decisions? Decisions, especially important ones, should not be left up to chance. If you need additional input into your decision, find someone who you trust, who has no reason to provide you with false information, and who you feel is likely to be a good source of wisdom for the issue at hand. Ask for his or her advice. By surrounding yourself with a group of friends who will be honest with you and provide wise counsel, you will have your own, grounded pendulum to make effective and good decisions.
